About Tidy Moss
Tidy Moss is a free online tools platform for everyday calculations. It provides self-built calculators for food and nutrition figures and for the energy you burn during ordinary activities, plus a small set of everyday utility tools.
What problem it solves
Most quick calculations people look up — how much carbohydrate is in a portion, how many calories a walk burns, what a weight is in stones — are answered by pages that show a number and nothing else. Tidy Moss shows the number and the reasoning: the formula, the reference values behind it, a worked example, and the limits of the estimate. Every tool page is written to be checkable rather than authoritative.
How the tools are built
Each calculator is built in-house. There are no embedded third-party calculators and no iframes. The formula used is printed on the tool page itself, together with the reference data it applies — for example nutrient values from the USDA FoodData Central database, activity intensity values informed by the Compendium of Physical Activities, and unit relationships fixed by international agreement. Where a figure is an average rather than an exact measurement, the page says so.
Update principles
Reference data is reviewed periodically against its published sources. Each tool page carries a last-updated date so you can judge how current the figures are. If you spot an error or an outdated value, corrections are welcome and are applied to the page after checking against the underlying source.
Who runs this site and how to reach us
Tidy Moss is run by a small independent operator. The site is maintained as a utility: no account is needed to use any tool, and no personal data is sold or shared for advertising beyond the third-party advertising described in the Privacy Policy. Questions, corrections, and source requests can be sent to the contact page; messages are typically answered within 2–5 business days.
