How Fat Burn Is Estimated

The calculation uses the metabolic equivalent of task (MET) method, the same approach used in exercise science and many fitness trackers. One MET is roughly the energy your body uses at rest. When you press at 3.8 METs, you are burning about 3.8 times your resting energy expenditure.

The first formula converts METs, body weight, and time into total calories:

Calories per minute = MET × 3.5 × weight (kg) ÷ 200

Multiplying by your total minutes gives total calories. The calculator then applies the fat-share percentage you selected to estimate how many of those calories came from fat. Dividing fat calories by 9 gives fat grams, because each gram of dietary or stored fat provides about 9 kcal.

So the session is estimated to burn about 70 kcal, with roughly 3 g of fat. If the person instead did vigorous press-ups (MET 8.0) for the same time and chose the high-effort fat share (30%), total calories would be about 147 kcal and fat grams about 4.9 g — more total energy, but a lower percentage from fat.
